Getting Crafty

I have never thought of myself as a crafty person but always had the desire to learn how to be. One day I made up in my mind that I was going to learn and pursue this desire.:) And then thanks to Pinterest I have had plenty of inspiration! My first goal in the journey of being crafty was to make at least one of my Christmas presents this past year. I saw a picture of some monogram pillows and wanted to make them for my brother and sister-in-law because they recenlty got married! I was so nervous but thanks to my wonderful friend, it was a success!

Seriously, my friend Amanda pretty much had to tell me exactly what to do because I had never done something like this before. She should really have a blog of her own, she is so crafty and awesome at home decor!

With the making of pillows you can either buy stuffing or you can buy cheap pillows and use them as the insert, which we did in this case.
We first measured the material according to the size of the pillows.
I had previously made a stencil that I printed off from a Word document and then cut out with an exacto knife.
I got black paint and gently dabbed the stencil onto the material. (I put paper in between the material to prevent any bleed through on the back.)
I did the same on three pillows, 2 B's for the first letter of their first name and then a &.
I let the paint dry and the pulled the material inside out and we sewed the sides with the sewing machine.
We then stuffed the material with the pillow previously bought and sewed the bottom of the pillow by hand.
Here they are :) I am so proud of them!
I was working on another project that I will share soon and had extra material so I went ahead and made me a pillow. I did this one backwards, we sewed and stuffed the material first and then I painted on the monogram, which worked fine.

I really enjoyed making these pillows. It was very therapeutic and relaxing. I want to continue to grow in my knowledge of crafts, it really is fun and you can save a lot of money!
Hope you enjoyed the first experience!!
